A conversation with MNTC Technology Representative for Moore Public Schools, Brenda Grant. She serves as the primary liaison between MPS parents/guardians, faculty, staff, and administrators, and Moore Norman Technology Center.

School is back in session, which means it's time for high school students in Moore to start making plans to apply to Moore Norman Technology Center. As an MNTC Rep in Moore Public Schools, what do you want families to know about this fall's recruitment season?

We will be recruiting for the 2027-28 school year, starting with presentations to sophomores. After the presentations, students will have one week to sign up for the Sophomore Showcase, which gives them an opportunity to visit two programs on the MNTC campus. Applications will open in October and will only be open for a month, so it’s important for students to pay attention to dates and deadlines! Fall recruitment is focused on high school sophomores, but it’s not too late for juniors or seniors to apply.

If a student plans to attend college after high school, is there a place for a college-bound student at MNTC?

Yes! MNTC can be a pathway to college, a career, or both. With hands-on experience, industry certifications, and technical skills, Moore Norman programs can help students stand out to colleges and employers, and complement a college education. Many MNTC students go on to college, and some even take concurrent college courses while enrolled. Moore Norman is a great option no matter what your plans are after graduation.

We know that students get job skills at MNTC, but what do they really learn?

Moore Norman career programs are academically rigorous and technical. Students apply high-level math, writing, problem-solving and critical thinking while mastering industry-specific, real-world skills. All students are expected to maintain passing grades at MNTC and at their sending school. If a student is struggling in any class, whether it's at Moore Norman or their sending high school, MNTC's Student Success coaches provide tutoring support to get them back on track. They also learn professional skills that help them be more successful in school and at work. Learning at MNTC prepares students for a real career and it will take your hard work, responsibility, and commitment.

How can a student involved in extracurricular activities fit Moore Norman into their schedule?

Many MNTC students successfully participate in athletics, concurrent enrollment, band, clubs, and other extracurricular activities at their home high school. Because MNTC offers both morning and afternoon sessions, students often have the flexibility to fit career training into their schedule while remaining involved in school activities. Keeping their grades up and working closely with their high school counselor and MNTC Rep, will help them set up their class schedule in a way that allows them to fit everything in before graduation.

You mentioned academic rigor. Do students need a high GPA to be considered for admission?

Perfect grades are not mandatory. Admission to MNTC is based on a combination of factors, including academic performance (grades and/or qualifying test scores), and things like interest in the program and experience level. We don't expect high school applicants to have professional experience, but working on their car, caring for a sick relative, or designing t-shirts for their band count as experience. What matters most is good attendance and successfully completing high school classes, especially their core academic courses.

Our goal is to get the right student, in the right program, for the right reasons!
